Building Knowledge, Skills & The Perfect Treatment Space

Starting a career in skin aesthetics isn’t just about performing treatments — it’s about understanding the science behind the skin and creating an environment where clients feel confident, comfortable, and cared for. This week has been focused on learning, planning, and preparing for the exciting journey ahead.

Understanding Chemical Peels & Skin Types

One of the most important things I’ve been studying is chemical peels and how different skin types influence the strength and type of peel that can be safely used.

Chemical peels work by applying carefully formulated acids to the skin, which encourage controlled exfoliation. This process helps remove damaged outer layers of skin and stimulates new, healthier skin cells.

However, not every peel is suitable for every client.

Different skin types and sensitivities affect how strong a peel can be used. Factors such as pigmentation, skin thickness, previous treatments, and overall skin health must all be considered when selecting the correct protocol.

Understanding this allows treatments to be safe, personalised, and highly effective for each individual client.

The Origin of Microneedling

Another area of focus has been learning about microneedling and where the treatment originated.

Microneedling is a technique that involves using extremely fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny channels stimulate the body’s natural healing response, increasing collagen and elastin production.

The treatment has evolved significantly over the years and is now widely used to improve:

  • Skin texture

  • Acne scarring

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Enlarged pores

  • Overall skin rejuvenation

Modern microneedling devices allow treatments to be performed safely and effectively with minimal downtime.

Understanding the 5 Layers of the Skin

A strong understanding of skin anatomy is essential when performing advanced treatments.

The skin is made up of five key layers within the epidermis:

  1. Stratum Corneum

  2. Stratum Lucidum

  3. Stratum Granulosum

  4. Stratum Spinosum

  5. Stratum Basale

Each layer plays an important role in protecting the body, producing new skin cells, and maintaining healthy skin function.

Treatments such as chemical peels and microneedling must be performed with a deep understanding of these layers to ensure the skin barrier remains healthy while still achieving visible results.

Understanding Comedones

Another key topic covered has been comedones, which are a common type of acne lesion.

There are two main types:

Open comedones (blackheads)

These occur when a clogged pore remains open at the surface of the skin. The dark colour is caused by oxidation when the contents of the pore are exposed to air.

Closed comedones (whiteheads)

These occur when a pore becomes blocked but remains closed at the surface, creating a small raised bump under the skin.

Understanding the difference helps determine the most effective treatment approach.

Learning Treatment Protocols

A major part of aesthetic training involves learning treatment protocols.

Protocols ensure that every treatment follows a structured and safe process, including:

  • Client consultation

  • Skin analysis

  • Correct product selection

  • Safe treatment technique

  • Proper aftercare advice

Following professional protocols ensures treatments are consistent, safe, and tailored to each client’s skin concerns.

Building the Business Foundations

Alongside training, work has also begun on building the foundations of the business.

The website is currently being developed to provide information about treatments, skincare education, and booking options for future clients.

An Instagram profile has also been created, which will be used to share:

  • Skincare education

  • Treatment results

  • Behind-the-scenes content

  • Updates as the clinic develops

This will allow clients to follow the journey as the business grows.

Creating a Calm & Welcoming Treatment Space

Another exciting step has been preparing the beauty room.

New decorations have been added to create a calm, relaxing environment where clients can feel comfortable during treatments. A welcoming space is an important part of the overall experience, helping clients relax while receiving professional skin treatments.

The Journey Ahead

This is just the beginning of the journey into professional skin aesthetics. Every day brings new knowledge, new skills, and new progress towards offering high-quality treatments that prioritise skin health, safety, and real results.

More updates, skincare tips, and insights will be shared as the training continues.
